    Galle Season 2015 commences

    President Maithripala Sirisena opened on Sunday the Galle Season 2015 exhibition and fair which focuses on the city of Galle, the Galle Dutch Fort and the coast.

    The five-day trade exhibition and fair which commenced on Sunday at the Galle Samanala Ground and Dramapala Ground will continue till Thursday (31).

     

    The objective of Galle Season is to attract attention of local and International tourists in order to make Galle an active blooming city in the country, Governor Southern Province Dr. Hemakumara Nanayakkara said. The Galle Samanala ground is the venue for exhibition of agriculture, commercial industries and small industry whereas the Dramapala Ground holds scientific flora, ornamental horticulture, organic agriculture and livestock exhibitions.

     

    Exhibition of art, craft and Antique exhibitions, Photography, Museums, Traditional lace making, Gem and Jewelry, Puppet shows, Movies, Book and Children's exhibition are some highlights of the show. The famous Armed forces show including military band displays, army tattoo and para trooping add excitement to the crowd. According to the organizers a cultural pageant honoring the new era of democratic rule will be held every day signifying characters from old Sinhalese rule, Colonial times, and freedom fighters till present time.

     

    Galle Season is organized by the Governors Secretariat of the Southern Province, Southern Provincial Council and Galle Library Fort with the District Secretary of Galle, the Chief Secretary of Southern Province and the Mayor of Galle.


    A special security program will be carried out with extensive monitoring by the Armed Forces and Police, according to the organizers.
