    People should not damage environment in their development process – President

    ‘Our next goal should enter into an era of blue and green, in a background where climate change poses a fundamental threat to the survival of human beings’, said President Maithripala Sirisena.

    The President also emphasized that people should not damage the environment in their development process.

     

    He made these remarks participating at the inaugural ceremony of the “Towards the era of blue and green” Program held at the BMICH, yesterday (6).

     

    The President further said that the concept of the sustainable development has drawn a special attention of the world.

     

    All of us should totally commit ourselves to go forward as a nation which choose the suitable things and neglect the inappropriate things, he added. He also said that we should not recall wrongs done in the past and be negative in the present, but to fulfill our duties and responsibilities in a proper manner for today.

     

    President Sirisena said that all of us must unite to protect and promote our natural resources including flora and fauna. He further said as Sri Lankan citizens, we are strongly committed to fulfill the pledges given at the Paris UN Climate Conference.

     

    President Maithripala Sirisena launched the website of the Sri Lanka Next national program at this event.

     

    Ministers,MPs, scholars , environmentalists, public servants and others participated in the event.
