He was addressing the national ceremony to mark completion of one year of the democratic governance, established under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena, at the BMICH in Colombo today (Jan 8).
We can be immensely pleased with what we have achieved within this one year, he said, while thanking President Maithripala Sirisena for coming forward and giving leadership to the change.
He stated that Parliament will convene tomorrow (9) to table the proposal for the creation of a Constitutional Assembly and it will be endorsed by some while some may oppose it.
The Premier noted however the proposal will decide if the country will continue its journey forward towards good governance or if it will continue to remain stuck in the same old politics which was rejected by the public
However, the Premier said the government will not cease their efforts in establishing democracy.
