Government should change Police in to a people friendly service - President Featured

    March 28, 2016

Converting the Police service in to a people friendly service is the aim of the new government, said the President Maithripala Sirisena.

According to the President, a more efficient service is expected from the Police by building a close relationship with the public.

He made these remarks addressing the closing ceremony of the considerably large joint Police mobile service themed “Better society-secure country” organized by the Presidential Office, Ministry of Law and Order and the Sri Lanka Police Department. The event was held in Nissankamallapura Junior School in Manampitiya, Polonnaruwa yesterday (27th March).

An array of Mobile services was implemented in Welikanda, Dimbulagala, and Thamankaduwa divisional secretariat divisions in Polonnaruwa District for over 100-days providing a large number of social and legal services throughout the district.

Although the government institutions including Police Department are often criticized and admired alike, the service provided by them is priceless, he said. He also recalled the great service rendered by the Police together with the tri-forces during the war period.

Such services will help to put out the negative attitudes in public about Police. The program will be extended to other provinces in the days to come.
