President during a meeting with the Special Task Force on Disaster Management yesterday (23rd May) at the Presidential Secretariat instructed the relevant authorities not to allow for any unauthorized dwellings in the future to control flash floods.

He also has ordered to ban land reclamation in Western Province from yesterday (23rd May).

According to the officials, the unauthorized settlements and reclamation of lands have been the main cause of the disaster situation.

The President said that these measures were taken fulfilling the duties of the Government to prevent a recurrence of this situation in the future.

According to the instructions of the President Sirisena, all houses affected by disaster will be brought under proper technical evaluation before the resettlement of families.
