    Comprehensive strategies to resolve higher education issues – President Featured

    Government will act according to a comprehensive strategy to resolve the issues that have arisen in the field of university education in the country, emphasized the President Maithripala Sirisena.

     

    He made these remarks participating in the Convocation of the Uva-Wellassa University held at the BMICH yesterday (2nd June).

     

    President pointed out that even though many criticisms were leveled against the country’s free education policy as well as for its procedures, Sri Lanka has more quality education than any other developed countries in the world.

     

    He further said that every government had made a commitment to provide necessary resources to strengthen the free education system in our country and to resolve issues in the field of education, and also we can be happy about the benefits we received through the free education system of our country.

     


    President emphasized the importance of being rich with knowledge and intelligence to conquer the modern world which moves forward with high technology and added that it is the responsibility of the education system to deliver the essential knowledge to the younger generation and equip them with self reliance in decision making in a democratic environment.

     


    The President awarded degrees to 52 grandaunts at the Convocation. The Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University, most venerable Bengamuwe Sri Dammadinna Nayake Thero presented a memento to the President to mark his visit to the convocation.

     


    Minister Lakshman Kiriella , State Minister, Mohan Lal Grero, Vice Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University, Professor G. Chandrasena, were also participated.
