    Government's Vision is to make Sri Lanka Asia's Education Hub - President Featured

    The Government has taken steps to end discrimination against rural students in the educational arena through the Mahindodaya 1,000 school development program, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa.  Schools are upgraded to a complete school under this program, where facilities will be available for the teaching and learning process, he added.

    The President was addressing a gathering at the opening of the upgraded Moneragala Wedikumbura Vidyalaya in the Uva Province as a secondary school under 1000 Mahindodaya schools development program and opening  the newly constructed Mahindodaya Science Laboratory.

     

    In line with the Government's vision to make Sri Lanka an education hub of Asia, the entire education sector has already been subjected to a radical change. Under the Mahindodaya school development program, especially rural students will be able to conquer the world with novel technology including information technology, the President further said.

     

    The Laboratory constructed with the supervision of the Education Ministry and under Mahindodaya 1,000 school programme consists of a mathematics laboratory, a language laboratory with 25 computers and another computer laboratory with 40 computers and a distant learning centre.

     

    The President after unveiling the plaque vested with the students the 3-storied building. The President also spoke with the teachers and the students..

     

    Several Ministers and parliamentarians including  Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena, Uva Province Governor Nanda Mathew, Chief Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa were present at the occasion.(KH/SI)
