    President inaugurates 10,000 Neela Haritha Villages program Featured

    National Program to build island-wide10,000 Eco-friendly Haritha Suhuru villages (Smart villages) within four years under the “Neela Haritha Lassana Lanka” (Beautiful Green Lanka). The project was launched yesterday (1st July) in Kegalle under the patronage of the President Maithripala Sirisena.

     

    The program is implemented in par with the pledge made by the world leaders at the Climate Change Summit in Paris in 2015 not to exceed the global warming by more 2 Celsius degrees.

     

    According to the President Sirisena, the world leaders, and organizations including the United Nation has drawn their attention to conserve and nourish the natural resources. As well, "The Sri Lankans, joining with the Neela Haritha Villages program are fulfilling the responsibility of saving our future generations from harmful effects due to the environmental destruction", the President said.

     

    Ven. Maha Sangha and other religious leaders, Ministers S. B. Dissanayake, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa, Mahipala Herath, Ministers and MPs including State Minister Champika Premadasa, Deputy Minister, Anuradha Jayaratne, Udaya R. Senevirathne, Secretary to the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Dr P. A. Kiriwandeniya, founder of the SANASA movement were also present.
