Consensus reached among all parties on Buddhism – PM

    October 11, 2016

All the political parties in the Parliament including the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) have reached a consensus to promote the clauses related to  Buddhism in the Constitution, and therefore there is no issue regarding the safety of Buddhism, said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Addressing a religious ceremony in Kolonnawa he said that not only the political parties but the religious leaders also have expressed their consensus in this regard.

“There is no need to have a problem about Buddha Sasana. We just want to develop it, and also to reorganize the Piriven education. We have focused on that”, he said and added that as the government, the President and he would take every possible step to protect Buddhism not in a verbal manner but in action.

He also expects to hold a Theravada Buddhist Forum in Sri Lanka in 2018. “ Buddhism should be spread up to Europe, and America”, he added.
