Public should be aware of those who try to create turmoil – President Featured

    November 09, 2016

Various organizations are engaged in movements to create turmoil and instability in the country and the public should be aware of these elements, said President Maithripala Sirisena.

He stated that various conspiracies are being launched in the country to create disunity among Sinhala and Muslim people and tension in the public.

The President was speaking at the commemoration ceremony of the late Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero. The ceremony was held at the Foundation Institute yesterday (Nov. 08) for the first year remembrance of late Ven. Sobitha Thero.

“Four months ago the government had decided to fulfill the requests of the war heroes who were engaged in the war. But some groups mislead those innocent war heroes and tried to make tension according to their political needs”, the President said.

“Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero bravely fought to build Sri Lanka as a good country. He tirelessly worked with commitment and sacrifices for the future of the religion, sasana, society and nation for a long time before the election campaign of the common candidate”, he said.

Doctor Raja Wijethunga offered a land to establish a center to take the social mission of the Sobitha Thero forward as a special national mission.

A documentary on the national mission of Sobitha Thero was screened on this occasion. The souvenir books on Sobitha Thero were presented to the President and the Prime Minister.

The Convener of the National Movement for a Fair Society (NMFFS) Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya also spoke on this occasion.
