He gave these instructions participating at a discussion on streamlining the waste management held at the Presidential Secretariat, on13th June. The President inquired about the progress of the programs being implemented island wide on waste management.

The President instructed the IGP to take stern legal action against people who obstruct the garbage disposal at sites selected by Local Government authorities and further instructed to strengthen the Environmental Police.

President Sirisena said that the Government will provide Rs. 2,000 million this year to build waste disposal system at Aruwakkalu in Puttlam.

The President instructed the Environmental Police to submit a daily report on improper garbage disposal on roadsides.
