Govt. supports police to enforce law – PM

    September 08, 2017

The government has encouraged the police to carry out their duties and enforce the law, Prime Minister Ranil Wickemesinghe said.

He said steps will also be taken to provide quality training to police officers while the bill to establish a University for Police and Crimes is being drafted.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe made these remarks addressing the 151st Police Anniversary Celebration held yesterday (7th Sept.) at Bambalapitiya Police Park.

He said the government has allocated Rs. 3.3 billion more compared to previous years. “The economy of the country can be strengthened if the security of the country is ensured. To ensure law and order, the police should not be politicized. The police failed to punish offenders, as it was politicized in the past.”

The Premier requested the IGP and the police to work with the aim of controlling drug trafficking and organized crimes during the next five years.
