President Mahinda Rajapaksa accompanied by Minster Vasudeva Nanayakkara joined the main event held at Galle Face green  while the regional events were held in Mullaitivu, Arugam Bay, Hambantota, Galle, Jaffna and Batticaloa.

This was not  just another kite festival, musical events, potluck food stalls and a national language stallwere included as additional events. The event allowed individuals to cook and consume various cultural delicacies. Sri Lanka,   through the Kite Festival called for strong unity and harmony between people of all communities and religions.

A cultural show was also held at the event with the aim of promoting social integration.

Senior Minister A.H.M.Fouzie was also present at the event.
