    President visits Stafford Sri Lankan School in Doha

    President Maithripala Sirisena during his two day state visit to Qatar visited Stafford Sri Lankan School in Doha, yesterday (25th Oct.).

     

    Stafford Sri Lankan School in Doha was inaugurated in October 2001 to provide an opportunity to receive education, especially for the Sri Lankan community as well as for the students from all over the world.  Currently, approximately 1,300 students receive education at the school.

     

    The students of the school warmly welcomed the President when he arrived at the school.

     

    The President appreciated the great service rendered by the Stafford Sri Lankan School to produce disciplined, intelligent students and he further said that it is the responsibility to provide a good education for the children wherever they live in the world.

     

    President Sirisena also engaged in a cordial discussion with the students.

     

    Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan delegation, including the President visited the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha.

     

    The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) represents Islamic art from three continents over 1,400 years. Its collection includes metal work, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, textiles and glass obtained from three continents and dating from the 7th to the 19th century.

     

    The museum houses a collection of work gathered since the late 1980’s including manuscripts, textiles and ceramics. It is one of the world’s most complete collections of Islamic artifacts, with items originating in Spain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, India, and Central Asia.
