The book has been compiled on the instructions of Maha Nayakas of Malwatta and Asgitiya chapters and with the assistance of Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela. It was coordinated by the Ministry of Mass Media and Information, Government Information Department and Kandy District Secretariat. Venerable Professor Hanguranketha Deerananda Thera, Professor G.B. Meegaskumbura and Professor H.M.D.R. Herath are the authors of the book.

The book comprises of writings on temples associated with historic Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth Relic) and their tasks, Perahera concept during Buddha's period, Sri Dalada Perahera, Historical royal connections, Sri Dalada Maligawa architecture, art, carvings, murals etc.

Ven.Prof.Hanguranketha.Dheerananda Thera presented the book to President Rajapaksa.(KH)
