The minister said that this plant had been identified as an indigenous plant found only in limited areas. The plant had been so far found only in Kalutara district. The plant grows in a swamp called Wathurana in Kalutara District. It had been found in a private land and spread around 6.25 hectares therefore the government was in the process of acquiring eight hectares of that land.

The Minister said so in response to a question raised by UNP Colombo District Rosy Senanayake.
Minister Premajayantha said that police had been instructed to be vigilant against those who would harm the swamp forest and act against them under the provisions of Wildlife Act. (Special Reporter)
