    Sri Lanka Telecom profit galore Featured

    Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has earned a profit of Rs 1324 million during the first half this year, according to a document tabled in Parliament today.

     

    The document was tabled by Leader of the House Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Nimal Sirpala de Silva in response to a question raised by UNP Colombo District MP Ravi Karunanayake.


    It said that SLT’s projected profit for the year stands at Rs 4000 million.


    The SLT has Rs 7843 million as total short term debt, bank overdrafts, medium and long term debt as of today.


    The SLT also projects a profit of Rs 4200 million and Rs 4425 million for the years of 2015 and 2016 respectively.


    Profit for year 2013 was Rs 3635 million while in 2012 the SLT has made a profit of Rs 3246 million.


    Accordingly, the SLT has a capital amounting to Rs 18049 million and Reserves of Rs 39076 million giving a total of Rs 57125 million.


    SLT also bore a cost of Rs 116,790 per an employee in 2013 while net profit per employee for the same period is Rs 38 534 million. It was also revealed that SLT is neither overstaffed nor understaffed as the total number of employees stands at 7798. (Special Reporter/HC)
