    SLFP discusses need for a 'National Government'

    A large number of Sri Lanka Freedom Party MPs stressed the need to form a national government to achieve their objectives prior to the next parliamentary election at a two day  workshop held for its MPs in Katunayake on Sunday (22).There was no final decision taken regarding the national government, though a majority were in favour of it.

    The SLFP, passed a resolution calling for the reformation of the executive presidential system and the enactment of a new electoral system as two interwoven matters, party sources said.
     
    During the workshop the SLFPers discussed on restructuring the party at length. They also focused attention on facing the forthcoming general election and strategies to tackle the challenges.  
     
    President Maithripala Sirisena who is the SLFP Chairman pointed out that the SLFP recognizing the present political realities should work out slogans that bring better political policies.   
     
    The President also  emphasised on the importance of acting according to people's needs as the entire country is monitoring the implementation of the 100-day programme.
