Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa participating as the Chief Guest at this grand ceremony presented awards to the recipients in the presence of Environment and Renewable Energy Susil Premajayantha, Secretary to the Ministry B.M.U.D.Basnayake and many other distinguished guests.  A total number of 55 awards comprising Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit awards were presented to the recipients.

The President appreciating the winners, said the award winning companies must be encouraged and protected as they really have contributed to the objective of creating a base for sustainable development. The Central Environmental Authority  initiated the National Green Award scheme with a view to recognizing and rewarding Institutions, business entities, Industries, hotel projects, schools which have demonstrated good environmental performance in line with the government policy of "Towards the Cleaner and Greener Sri Lanka".
