Over 40,000 CSD Personnel receive Service Confirmation

    June 01, 2015

About 40,000 Civil Security Department (CSD) personnel received permanent appointments with pensions from the President Maithripala Sirisena during a ceremony held in Medirigiriya, Polonnaruwa yesterday (May 31).

Director General of the CSD Mr. Chandraratne Pallegama was also present at the ceremony.

Now Civil Security Force personnel will be entitled for pensions and other facilities of the government service.

The CSD was formed in 1980 as a voluntary service to protect border villages from LTTE activities as the National Home Guard Service. In the year 2006 Home Guard Service re-structured as the Civil Security Department. Most of the personnel worked under a daily-wage pay basis in absence of a timely service conformation.

Speaking at the occasion the President said that, CSD apart from its core duties and responsibilities have extended its expertise in national development, reconciliation and also to thwart illicit drug smuggling activities while shouldering responsibilities along with the Tri-Forces and the Police.

In recognition of their invaluable service, numerous welfare measures would be initiated to ensure the wellbeing of CSD personnel, he noted.

Minister Hon. M K D S Gunewardene, Chief Minister of the North Central Province Peshala Jayaratne, Parliamentarians and a large gathering of CDS personnel were present at the event.
