    Join hands to build a new political culture - PM appeals to all citizens Featured

    Sri Lanka's Prime Minister and the leader of the United National party (UNP) Ranil Wickremasinghe called upon all citizens to act as one family and not as winners and losers in uniting the country.

    Following the victory of his party at the parliamentary elections held Monday, the Orime Minister yesterday said that it is totally inappropriate to divide the people as winners and losers and appealed to the people to join hands to build a new political culture in the country disregarding politics.

     

    Making a statement, the PM said the majority of the country has given approval to the United National Front to continue the good governance revolution made on January 8th at the Presidential election.

     

    It has been possible to fulfill the objective of conducting a free and fair election under a peaceful environment and it is the responsible of all citizens to constantly safeguard this conducive situation, he said.

     

    The Prime Minister said that all Sri Lankans must accept the challenge of creating a civilized society and a government of consensus, which provides equal opportunities for all.

     

    The United National Party claimed victory receiving 45.66 percent of the votes and 93 seats while the main opposition received 42.38 percent of votes and 83 seats.
