    Freedom, democracy & human rights will be strengthened through new Constitution- President Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena has said that his Government will take steps to strengthen the freedom, democracy and human rights in the country by introducing a new Constitution.

    The President, who arrived in New York to attend the 70th Session of UNGA, made these observations after engaging religious observances at the New York Buddhist Temple, yesterday (27).

     

    Speaking to the Sri Lankan community at the temple, the President said that the new government has received a significant assistance from the international community to strengthen the economy of Sri Lanka.

     

    He also said that he will use the power given to him by the people of the country for the betterment of the country and its people.

     

    The Maha Sangha in New York, including the ven. Kurunegoda Piyatissa, the Chief Incumbent of the New York Buddhist Temple attending the event blessed the President with the chanting of Seth Pirith.

     

    The President also engaged in a cordial discussion with the Sri Lankan community in New York
