The competition is conducted with the aim of encouraging the youth of Sri Lanka to take up athletics as a sport and help talented athletes achieve their best.
Some 100 schools are expected to take part in this annual event and the organisers expect a turn out of more than 3,000 students for the two-day meet.
Participants in the Under-9, 11 and 13 age categories will be judged based on qualifying standards and awarded a merit certificate if they qualify, while participants in the Under-15 and 17 categories will be awarded first, second and third places.
Performances of athletes will win points to their schools and the school with the highest number of points will be awarded the championship trophy, while the school with the second highest number of points will receive the runner up trophy.
