    Sri Lanka clinches four Gold Medals at SA Games in India

    Sri Lanka bagged four gold medals on the first day of the competition at the 12th South Asian Games, yesterday (06) that is simultaneously underway in Guwahati and Shillong.

     

    Sri Lanka's Matthew Abeysinghe continuing his dominance in Swimming bagged the first gold medal in the Men's 200m Freestyle Swimming and the second gold in the 100m Butterfly Swimming.

     

    Sri Lanka won its third gold medal in the 100m men's freestyle relay. The Men's relay team was led by Matthew Abeysinghe.

     

    Sri Lanka's Michiko Raheem won silver in the Women's 200m Freestyle while Hiruni Perera won the Silver Medal in the women's 100m Butterfly. Michiko Raheem won the bronze in the women's 100m Butterfly.

     

    Dinusha Hansani won Silver in the women's 48 kilogram weightlifting event yesterday morning.

     

    Janaka Hemantha Kumara won bronze in the Men's 40 km Individual Time Trial.

     

    Chaturanga Lakmal Jayasooriya won the Silver medal in the Men's 56kg weight lifting event also set a new South Asian record for the snatch method lifting 111 kilograms. Chamari Mendis also won the Silver Medal in the Women's 53kg weightlifting event.

     

    Anton Sudesh Peiris won the Gold Medal in the Men's 62kg Weightlifting event.

     

    At the end of day one Sri Lanka had clinched four Gold Medals, ten Silver Medals and seven Bronze Medals in a total of 21 medals. India bagged a total of 19 medals with 14 gold and 5 silver medals.
