    Ramazan fasting begins tomorrow Featured

    June 05, 2016

Muslims all over the world will observe Ramazan, the month of fasting from tomorrow (6th June). Fasting during the month of Ramazan is the fourth of the five pillars of Islam. Families gather at sunset for Iftar (breakfast).

The other meal Suhoor is taken just before dawn. Ramazan is a time to spend with friends and family. Fasting is intended to help teach Muslims self-discipline, self-restraint and generosity. Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking and sex from dawn to dusk. Many spend long hours observing prayers or reciting the Qur’an.They avoid committing sins and show compassion to the less fortunate.

Night precedes day in the Islamic calendar and the month is either 29 or 30 days. The sky is monitored for the new moon on the final night of Sha’ban, and if the moon is sighted the first day of Ramazan is declared. The same method is adopted to determine the end of Ramazan and the celebration of Edi-ul-Fitr.
