    Colombo Super Cross 2017 flagged off in Welisara

    The Colombo Super Cross 2017, the inaugural motor sports event organized by the Sri Lanka Navy in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) was flagged off yesterday (7th May) at the motocross and gravel track in Welisara.

    At the invitation of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Before the commencement of the series of racing events, the Commander of the Navy opened the racing tracks setting the platform ready for an exciting day of racing.


     
    Around 125 racing riders and 85 drivers from across the country competed under a total of 22 motorcar and motorcycle events (12 motorcars and 10 motorcycles events).


     
    The following riders from Sri Lanka Navy secured respective places at this inaugural motor sports event.

    125cc Standard modified motorcycles - 1st place
     
    Ordinary Seaman Shanuka Sandaruwan
    Standard modified motorcycles 250cc race 1 - 1st place
     
    Ordinary Seaman Shanuka Sandaruwan
    Racing motorcycles 250cc race 2 - 1st place
     
    Ordinary Seaman Shanuka Sandaruwan
    Standard modified motorcycles 250cc race 2 - 1st place
     
    Ordinary Seaman Shanuka Sandaruwan
    Racing motorcycles 250cc race 1 - 2nd place
     
    Best Rider of Colombo Supercross
    Ordinary Seaman Shanuka sandaruwan


     
    The Colombo Supercross is conducted with the aim of utilizing the profits made for the welfare of the families of Navy war heroes killed in action during the ethnic war and also to offer facilities and scholarships to their children.
