SL U19 in a glorious win over Bangladesh U19

    January 19, 2015

Charith Asalanka of Richmond and Lasith Lakshan of St.Thomas, Matara propelled Sri Lanka U19 to an easy win against their Bangladeshi counterpart in the opening game of the five-match one-day series concluded Sunday (18) afternoon at Colts ground with Sri Lanka youth winning by seven wickets.

After Bangladesh U19 decided to bat, Sri Lankan bowlers led by Charith Asalanka whose final figure was four for 36, reduced BD to a modest total of 202 all out in the 50th over. The sedate start coupled with a few early wickets put Bangladesh on defensive approach before the 4th wicket stand of 80 between Najuml Hossain (70) and Hasa Miraz (48) saw they reach over-two hundred total in the end. In addition to the Asalanka’s four wickets, Royalist ChamikaKarunarathne and Lahiru Kumara shared four wickets between them with two wickets apiece.

Sri Lanka in their reply lost their first wicket early, but the second wicket stand of 124 in 170 balls developed between Charith Asalanka who made 63 and Lasith Lakshan 71 with 3 fours and 3 sixes made things easy for Sri Lanka and finally Avishka Fernando and SahanArachchige settled the issue with 7 wickets and staggering 34 balls to spare.
