    Champaka Ramanayake appointed fast-bowling coach

    May 12, 2015

Champaka Ramanayake has been reappointed as Sri Lanka's fast-bowling coach after two years away from the role. He replaces Chaminda Vaas, who parted ways with SLC at the end of April.

"The appointment takes effect from June 1 and Ramanayake's appointment will cover three inbound tours namely of Pakistan, India and the West Indies," an SLC release said.

The board had hoped Ramanayake could commit to a longer stint, but his present family situation prevents him from undertaking overseas tours. The three upcoming home series will be played across June, July, August and October. The board will take stock of its options ahead of Sri Lanka's next international tour, which according to the FTP, is a full tour of New Zealand in December and January.

Ramanayake is a highly respected bowling coach, having played an important role in the discovery and development of several quicks currently in national contention. Sri Lanka's limited-overs spearhead Lasith Malinga, and Test bowlers Suranga Lakmal and Shaminda Eranga are among those Ramanayake has worked closely with.

In addition to having previously held the Sri Lanka bowling coach position until 2012, Ramanayake has also been Bangladesh bowling coach. He played 18 Tests and 62 ODIs for Sri Lanka between 1986 and 1995.
