China to Host Olympic Winter Games 2022

    August 01, 2015

Beijing: China is celebrating today after learning the country won the bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The famous Olympic Stadium, better known as the Bird's Nest, which once hosted the Olympics in 2008, was full of people Friday to look forward to the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Also the ancient Chinese Wall welcomed thousands of people since morning with flags and banners who waited several hours sharing screens to celebrate the final judgment of the world's top sporting body from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia together.

On behalf of our people, we ask you to take this step with China and honor us with your vote, which will have an impact for generations, said Yu Zaiqing, vice president of the IOC and the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) hours prior to the announcement.

Beijing began its presentation at 11:55 local time with a video message from Chinese President Xi Jinping, who stressed the Chinese people's passion for the Winter Games.

Scheduled to be held in China the Olympic Winter Games 2022 will boost exchanges and mutual understanding between the Chinese and other civilizations of the world, will encourage more than 1.3 million Chinese to get familiar with winter sports with interest and passion and will give a new opportunity to help boost the Olympic Movement and promote the Olympic Spirit, said Xi.

With Beijing looking to become the first city to get to host both the Summer Games as the winter, the legacies of the 2008 Games, including stadiums as The Nest and The Cube, as well as experiences in operating those facilities will help the Chinese capital to meet again with their promises.

A total of 85 IOC members voted this afternoon to elect the host city of the 2022 Winter Olympics between Almaty and Beijing.
