The mega drama ‘Kadawath Tharanaya’, based on different Shanthi Karma (invocation of blessings) rites and rituals of the low-country had its maiden show at Tower Hall, Colombo 10 yesterday afternoon to a packed crowd, headed by Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army.
The project on a suggestion made by Major General Ubaya Medawela, Colonel Commandant, SLAWC is slated to re-affirm that woman soldiers of the Army, although committed to service with firearms in hand, have not deviated from their ‘womanhood’ or ‘aesthetic values’, despite service requirements of challenging nature while giving pride of place for inherent womanliness qualities, found in them.
Directed and edited by Ms Jayani Kapuge, Drama Instructor at Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls’ School, Colombo, the novel, ‘Kadawath Tharanaya’ would contribute to bring to the fore that woman soldiers are also a tribe, endowed with an array of artistic skills, not second to anyone in the country.
Several senior officers also watched the maiden show at the theatre.
