    Karachi airport reopens for passengers

    All flights are operating according to schedule.  No damage was done to planes in the terrorist attack.  Karachi airport has been reopened after clearance by security agencies.

    This was announced by Advisor to Prime Minister on Civil Aviation Shujaat Azeem while talking to newsmen in Karachi on Monday afternoon.

     

    He said normalcy has restored and all flights are now operating according to their schedule. The adviser said the security of the airports is being tightened further.


    He said no damage was done to planes in the terrorist attack. He said the terrorists were Uzbek and Tajik nationals. Shujaat Azeem said it has been decided that the Airport Security Force will be trained by Pakistan Army.

     

    Earlier, the airport was cleared in the day. According to airport sources, a search operation was also carried at the premises of the airport after dawn to check the presence of any suspected terrorist.

     

    Police, Army and Rangers conducted a joint operation against the terrorists. They had attacked the airport with grenades and automatic weapons.  According to Rangers, three terrorists blew themselves up while the remaining seven were killed by the security forces in an exchange of fire. A large number of weapons including SMGs, RPGs, grenades and suicide jackets, were also recovered during the operation.

     

    Thirteen security personnel embraced martyrdom in the operation.Meanwhile, the final report of Karachi airport attack has been presented to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.  

     

    According to the report, the terrorists barged into the old airport from two different sides and attempted to paralyze the civil aviation network. They wanted to destroy all the aircraft parked at the airport.

     

    The Airport Security Force, demonstrating bravery, stopped the terrorists from entering Jinnah terminal.

     

    The personnel of ASF, Army and Rangers by sacrificing their lives safeguarded the precious assets of the nation. In the joint operation, security forces killed all the terrorists. (PBC) (KH/SI)
