    General Prayuth Chan-ocha voted as Thailand's Prime Minister

    General Prayuth Chan-ocha is awaiting royal endorsement to become Thailand's 29th prime minister.

     

    The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has selected him to head the country's government by a vote of 191 for, 0 against and 3 abstentions, The secretariat of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has forwarded the nomination of Prayuth Chan-ocha as prime minister to the Office of His Majesty′s Principal Private Secretary for a royal command to officially appoint him to the post.

     

    Prayuth seized control of the country on May 22, 2014 after months of unrest destabilized the elected government, led by former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

     

    Gen Prayuth has said while in Chon Buri today that he wouldn't make any moves until he is officially named prime minister after the royal endorsement.

     

    However, once in office, he has  promised his cabinet would strictly adhere to the agenda and timeline set by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).
