Nigeria's Oil Minister's Sister Kidnapped by Gunmen

    October 25, 2014

Abuja:  Nigeria's Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke's sister was kidnapped by gunmen in a southern oil-producing Niger Delta region, said Prensa Latina agency reports quoting Abuja police on Friday (24).

Osio Agama was seized at gunpoint as she approached her car on Tuesday night, Rivers state police spokesman Ahmad Muhammad said, adding that no ransom demands have been made.

The region has seen waves of ransom kidnappings in recent years, especially of powerful families.

One of the most prominent cases came in December 2012, when Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala's 82-year-old mother Kamene Okonjo was abducted from her home, in neighboring Delta state. (KH)
