Putin Highlights Launch of New Russian Heavy Missile

    December 24, 2014

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that the successful test launch of a Russian-made Angara-A5 missile is a major development for Russia and its allies in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), who are meeting in this capital.

It is a significant event for both Russia and the space industry, said Putin, who participated through a videoconference in the ceremony to launch the heavy missiles from the cosmodrome of Plesetsk, in northern Russia.

The president added that the Angara-A5 missile can put any space device into orbit with scientific and military ends.

The missile will be used for economic reasons and to strengthen the defensive capacity of Russia and CSTO, Putin stressed.

He noted that this test marks the end of an era of great and serious work for several years.

The Russian president reaffirmed the offering of the National Defense Center to its CSTO allies when he recalled that the missile was built using Russian technology only.

I'm sure that it will improve the coordination between the allies and the leading capacity of the ministries of defense, Putin pointed out.
