Yemeni Crisis Escalates after Announcement of Resigning President

    February 23, 2015

Sanaa, President Abd Rabu Mansur Hadi has claimed the position he had given up in late January and termed illegal the measures adopted by the Houthis tribe that controls the capital.

The decisions adopted since September last year, including the disolution of Parliament and the creation of a Supreme Revolutionary Committee of transition (SRC) are illegitimate, he said in a statement released by a satellite Qatari television station from the city of Aden, where he traveled after abandoning his residence here yesterday.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Ansar Alla, the military wing of the Houthis Movement, said that the arrival of Mansur Hadi safe and sound to Aden proves that the alleged siege of his home by members of the armed group is false, as Mansur Hadi received in his house politicians and the UN envoy Jamal Binomar.

The circumstances of this situation prove that Mansur's resignation "was aimed to lead the country to collapse in line with the intentions of foreign powers, and confirms that the measures adopted, based on the Constitutional declaration, are right," added the spokesman.

In this confused situation, mixed versions circulate about a Mansur Hadi's address to the nation.(PL)
