UAE Warns Citizens against Traveling to India

    March 09, 2015

Abu Dhabi: The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) decided to advice its nationals not to travel to India, due to an increase in the number of cases caused by the avian flu virus (H1N1), which has killed more than 700 people in that country, healthcare sources said.

The warning expresses concern by doctors and healthcare authorities in the UAE about the new outbreak of H1N1 flu in India, although the World Health Organization (WHO) had declared the epidemic had been eradicated a year ago.

According to statistics, about 10,000 people were infected, including 700 deaths, in the recent outbreak in India, and the worst incidence was reported in the state of Rajasthan, where 165 patients died, followed by Gujarat with 144 deaths.

Given the large number of expatriates from India and other nearby countries residing in the UAE, healthcare authorities and the media have intensified their warnings about the risks of travelling.
