    Omar al-Bashir Swears in For Another Five-Year Term in Sudan

    Hartum: Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir was sworn in on Tuesday (02) for another 5 years of mandate, with which he officially extends his government for three decades.

    The ceremony held at the local Parliament was attended by the heads of State of Egypt, Zimbabwe, and Kenya, Abdelfatah al Sisi, Robert Mugabe, and Uhuru Kenyatta, respectively, reported Al Sudanese daily.

     

    Other top government officials and personalities from African nations and international organizations were also present in the meeting.

     

    In his speech at the ceremony, the president was continuously committed to fight corruption, put emphasis in the economic growth, offer amnesty to armed groups, and achieve peace in Darfur, South Kordophan, and Blue Nile regions.

     

    Bashir won 94 percent of the vote in a national election in mid April, that were boycotted by many opposition figures, and which registered a weak 46 percent of people's participation.

     

    The Sudanese President is the only Head of State who is wanted by the International Criminal Court on alleged war crimes charges.
