"The Government and the people of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka express their heartfelt condolences to the Government and the people of the People’s Republic of China over the deadly explosions that occurred in a warehouse in the coastal city of Tianjin, resulting in the death and injury of several hundreds of people" the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"In this time of grief, the thoughts and prayers of the Sri Lankan people are with the victims and the families of those affected by this disaster", the statement said.

The statement further said that the Government of Sri Lanka reiterates its solidarity and support with the Government and the people of China, and hope for a speedy recovery from this tragedy.
