In a congratulatory letter to Ranil, Sheikh Hasina said "Through this election, people of Sri Lanka have given you the mandate to carry forward the reforms that your government initiated after the historic political transition of Sri Lanka in January this year. I am convinced that your distinguish  political carrier and experience in leading the government will be of immense use in attaining your vision of creating a ‘new country in 60 months’ that would see accelerated economic growth in an atmosphere of good governance”.

She also stated "Bangladesh profoundly values its friendly relations with Sri Lanka that are based on commonalities of history, culture and traditions. I wish to work closely with you in further strengthening our bilateral ties and promoting peace, progress and prosperity in our region and the world ". She wished for his continuous success in the high office and for his good health, happiness and personal well-being.
