The Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosive Wing of the SLAF continues to assist in the quarantine and disinfecting effort hand in hand with medical teams at the Bandaranayake International Airport (BIA) which is the main air transportation hub of the island.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had arrested two persons for spreading false information regarding the Coronavirus (Covid-19) on social media, said DIG Ajith Rohana addressing a media briefing on the Coronavirus issue at the Government Information Department a short while ago. He said 40 suspects who had engaged in spreading misinformation related to the coronavirus have also been identified.

The One-day Identity Card service of the Registration of Persons Department will be temporarily suspended from today (17), said the Department of Registration of Persons  Commissioner Viyani Gunatillake.

The main office and the Southern Province office will suspend its one day ID issuance until further notice, but the regular service will continue without any hindrance.

However, in the event there is an urgent need to obtain an identity card only, one’s identity could be certified by the relevant Grama Seva officer of the area and the application  could be submitted, the Commissioner-General said.

The Defence Ministry has decided to take legal action against those who are spreading rumors and posting false and misleading information via social media platforms and other digital media sites on coronavirus to create panic among people.
