Significant growth in economic and social sectors

    November 25, 2014
Since the elimination of the LTTE terrorism under the able leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa,  Sri Lanka has experienced a brisk economic growth and President Mahinda Rajapaksa should be given the absolute credit for this said Irrigation and Water Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva in Parliament.

Participating in the Committee stage debate on Budget 2015 under the expenditure heads of the Finance and Planning Ministry on Monday (24), Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva thanked all the members of the government and opposition sides for taking part in the budget debate.

Since 2005, the UNP and Opposition dreamt that the economy and the government would fail. It never happened and never would happen. Since 2005 Sri Lanka has achieved significant growth in economic and social sectors and the living standard of the people have improved as a result, the Minister said.

Before 2005, the economic growth rate was 2.5 percent and today it has increased up to 7.5 percent. The inflation rate which was 14 percent earlier was reduced to five percent, Minister de Silva noted.

In 2010, we achieved a target of 99 percent of the budgeted income and in 2011, it was 98 percent. We could gain 80 percent income in 2014. We have enough money to invest, the Minister reiterated.

Ravi Karunanayake said on the birthday of S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike on January 8, the UNP would defeat the SLFP. But the SLFPers would never allow Ranil Wickremesinghe to win by a cat's paw.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s victory is as clear as the sun rise tomorrow.

Although Anura Bandaranaike crossed over, not a single SLFPers crossed over. They rallied round the SLFP.(KH)
