State Minister Wijewardene read out the declaration of opening ceremony to inaugurate the sporting festival.
The annual national sports event is organized by the National Youth Services Council in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Federation of Youth Clubs and Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs.
Accordingly, participants from nine provinces are competing under four age groups (Under 20- boys, over 20- men, under 20- girls, over 20 -women) will vie for honours in a number of track and field events during the 3 day sports festival.
Speaking at the occasion, State Minister Wijewardene appreciated the National Youth Sports Festival which gives young men and women the opportunity to perform up to national level and bring international prestige to the country.
Further speaking, State Minister highlighted that sports will provide an active and disciplined society which is capable of facing both success and loss.
State Minister of National Policy and Economic Affairs Niroshan Perera, distinguished guests and a large number of spectators were also present at the occasion.
