    Sri Lanka Navy, US discuss bilateral defense cooperation

    Sri Lanka Navy and the United States Friday held discussions on bilateral defense cooperation placing special emphasis on maritime security.

    The discussions took place when the Commanding General of the United States Marine Corps Installation West (MCI-West), Brigadier General Edward D Banta called on the Commander of Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne at the Naval Headquarters on Friday.

     

    The Deputy Defense Attaché at the US Embassy in Sri Lanka accompanied Brigadier General Banta.

     

    The US military official and the Sri Lankan Navy Commander held 'cordial' discussions on a range of issues of mutual interests and bilateral relevance placing special emphasis on maritime security, Search and Rescue operations and training of personnel, the Navy said in a statement.

     

    Mementos were also exchanged as a gesture of goodwill at the conclusion of the meeting.
