The Chinese government has agreed to provide relevant funds to implement its priority projects related to drinking water, highways, railway lines, agriculture and irrigation under a five-year plan to revive the economy of the Polonnaruwa district.
Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Rajitha Senaratne said the cabinet of ministers have already approved the implementation of the program within 2016-2020 to benefit people in Polonnaruwa and adjoining districts.
The proposal made by the President to proceed with the project, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
The cabinet has approved the proposal to appoint a negotiating committee and a technical evaluation committee to award contracts to Chinese firms, according to the cabinet spokesman.
