Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera addressing a meeting of the collective of the families of missing persons in Akkaraipattu in Ampara district yesterday (March 30), said the government has signed the UN Convention and it will be presented in parliament within the next two or three months.
Sri Lanka has become a signatory to the convention on December 10, 2015, five years after it entered into force on December 23, 2010, and has not yet ratified the instrument, which is crucial to the fight against impunity and the right of victims to justice and reparations.
The Minister has told the families that the era of missing persons will be eradicated forever from the country.
