Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development has drawn up a special programme to export octopuses in cooperation with a Chinese company which has the backing of the Chinese government.
The ministry said the sea area around the country is abound with octopuses, which is a much relished food item in countries including China.
It is expected that these would be a good export market for this variety of mollusc.
Several rounds of discussions have already been held with the Chinese company in this connection and they hoped to sign an agreement soon to begin the export trade.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
