Sri Lanka Navy Thursday (June 02) has arrested six local fishermen for allegedly engaging in illegal fishing practices.
On receipt of information, naval troops attached to Lankapatuna in Eastern Naval Area arrested six local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing activities in the lagoon area of Serunuwara yesterday.
During the raid, a dinghy, a monofilament net, a diving mask and a pair of diving fins used for fishing activities were taken into custody.
The apprehended persons and the items were produced to Serunuwara Police for onward action.
