    Govt. urged devotees not to pollute the environment in Anuradhapura during Poson week

    Government has taken steps to extend many facilities to including food, water, sanitary, health, etc to devotees who will arrive in Mihintale and Anuradhapura for Poson with the assistance of both government and private sector institutions.

    Addressing the media at the Government Information Department, Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka said around two million devotees are expected at the Atamasthana and Mihintale for Poson.

     

    Minister Karunathilaka also urged devotees not to pollute the environment.

     

    “A policy decision has also been taken to ban bathing in Tissa Wewa and Nuwara Wewa and for other purpose since these two reservoirs will only be used to fulfill the drinking water requirements of the devotees,” the minister said.

     

    He added that around 4,000 police officers have been deployed to ensure security in the area while life saving teams consisting of 600 Navy have also been deployed in the areas where there are reservoirs.
