Currently there are about 500,000 deaf individuals in the country and the number of sign language interpreters are less than 10, according to the Minister.
Samurdhi beneficial families will be given priority in these recruitments.

Minister of Social Welfare and Empowerment S.B. Dissanayake has instructed to recruit 50 sign language interpreters immediately.
