    CAA collects over Rs 56 million as fines

    Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has collected over Rs 56 million as fines from traders who violated the price control law.

    CAA has conducted more than 12,000 raids against traders who priced goods more than the controlled price from January to August 9.


    A sum of Rs 49,965,500 was collected from Traders in Colombo while the figures for Kandy and Kurunegala districts are Rs 4,342,000 and Rs 3,671,000 respectively. The balance was collected from the other districts.


    A total of 993 raids were from Kurunegala district while it was 982 in Kandy and 887 in Colombo while the balance raids were from the other districts.


     The CAA has deployed more officials and intensified the raids since the Government controlled the price of 13esssential commodities.


     CAA has informed all its heads of districts to continue the raids and ensured the public that they will be conducted regularly in all districts.
